Why Net-Zero isn’t enough; we need something more…
Days are gone when carbon-cutting isn’t enough to avert temperature rising beyond a certain limit. We’ve come to a situation where more things need to be done as soon as possible.
“Climate-economic models are known as Integrated Assessment Models. They allowed modellers to link economic activity to the climate by, for example, exploring how changes in investments and technology could lead to changes in greenhouse gas emissions.
“Unfortunately, they also removed the need for deep critical thinking. Such models represent society as a web of idealised, emotionless buyers and sellers and thus ignore complex social and political realities, or even the impacts of climate change itself.” ~ James Dyke, Robert Watson & Wolfgang Knorr
1. What’s the problem with the Net-Zero concept?
It is highly evasive and deceptive. Not only does it make countries passive and lazy, but also can’t assess the actual actions they’re making to solve it. Many western countries have given their net-zero targets depending on their abilities. There is no doubt every country keeps the development over environment. They sense no urgency in doing so for climate change.
2. Totally depends on miraculous technological invention
Humanity is waiting that scientists and inventors would come up with a futuristic technology that can solve all our climate-related problems in one swoop. Until then, they can only wait in patience. The problem is so complex and huge that governments can’t do anything about it except cut the emissions.
3. Undermining the individual efforts
No problem can’t be solved when people come together and give their blood and sweat. Humanity is undermining that if they start working toward climate change in a concerted manner, then big things can happen without any miraculous things. A pot is filled drop by drop. Hence, we, at our individual level, should try to solve the problem.
Never forget that we build the lofty pyramids and the Great Wall of China without any sophisticated machinery.

What can we do?
1. Adopt Circular economy instead of the linear one
Leave behind extract, manufacture, use and dump. They are fragments of past. Now it’s time to create things that use again and again. No need to create waste.
2. Do one small thing for the environment every day
Sometimes, it’s better to leave your vehicle behind and go for shopping or work by using public transport.
3. Debunk myths related to Climate change
Some say climate change is a hoax. It’s okay to not trust leaders and politicians, but we should never doubt our scientists. They are providing the facts continously.
