What To Do When You Feel Low After Being Rejected?
My Experience to face two setbacks back to back in the span of 2 days in a totally different fields.
Rejection is painful. No matter how hard you try to suppress this feeling, it gives you pain, frustration and vagueness. It shifts our mindset — usually from high to low in the spectrum of self-esteem — and puts a label of failure on us.
I had a double whammy when I got rejected from two different places in totally different fields within the span of 2 days.
First, I was rejected by a firm after reaching the final stage of an interview during the screening process. Then, my short story for a climate fiction competition was passed over. When an opportunity slips away so close to you, the pain you feel is enormous and immense, passing through your mind, body, and soul.
Everything went smoothly from my side, and I was confident I’d get the job. I felt like nothing could stop me from achieving it. However, when the results came, it suddenly felt like a ball slipped through my fingers like sand.
Thereafter, I felt very low, incompetent, and dumb. I knew it wasn’t meant for me, but the feeling stayed with me for a while.
Hello,
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit your work to the competition. We’ve had to pass up on a lot of great stories, and unfortunately, yours was one of them. I’m grateful that you helped make this contest what it is, and I’d encourage you to submit your work elsewhere.
I had no idea what to do after the rejection. Initially, I felt very low and disconnected from the world around me. Once the initial pain of loss subsided, my brain started thinking about the situation.

I decide not to let the loss and misery hijack my mind once and for all.
How Am I Managing After Two Consecutive Failure?
Work Harder
Hard work beats luck. I’ve started working harder on things I love to do — writing. I’ve been working more consistently and deeply on my craft to weave more intricate and enchanting stories. Not only on my creative side, but I’ve also started going to the gym to build some muscle.
The infusion of dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, and oxytocin boosts your natural mood and removes all the negative thoughts.
Focus On Your Efforts
Results aren’t in your hands. Hence, you can focus only on your Karma. “I can do it…yes, I can do it.” And the results will come to you in their own time. The important thing is that you don’t have external control over things, and it will be futile to waste your precious time on what you can’t control, no matter how hard you try.
Focusing on tasks in hands without concerning about the results will definitely a good way to move ahead after rejections.
Opportunities Don’t End
You have to remember that the opportunity you are yearning for won’t be the last thing in the world. The setback can be disappointing and may delay your progress. But a lot more opportunities will come in the near future. Just be ready and open to grab them whenever they knock on the door.
Bless What You Have
A child yearns to have the toy she has seen in the store. She cries and throws her limbs in the air, and her parents are forced to get her the toy at last. She is happy. After a few days, she plays with the toy joyfully, like she would never separate from it. But after a fortnight, the toy is seen in a corner of the room untouched and uncared for.
It’s a human nature, not just a child nature. Things you get easily in life suddenly lose the value for you. We forget our blessings around us and instead desire for things we don’t have. Working for a good life isn’t a bad approach but you mustn’t put aside your blessings. Think what if they don’t have and the value for them will suddenly increase.
