We all know the secrets of success, and how to achieve what we actually want in this life. Determination, consistency, perseverance, and whatsoever term you wish to use are the time-tested tools that we need to climb over any goal. Every success story goes through them one way or another. In fact, you also know about these basics deeply and for a long time.

But the problem remains the same.

We remain stuck. Years pass in a blink and we keep dreaming to get our goals accomplished as soon as possible. Many of us make resolutions every new year from losing weight to learning a new language, and so on. But the bitter truth is 90% of us get engaged in our lives so much that we may sideline or cancel those resolutions.

According to some surveys, most resolutions won’t pass one-week barrier and astonishingly, the tendency is prevalent across the world.

Hope is everything…

Still, we make resolutions every year for the betterment of our lives in hope to stick on them this year for a while at least. Having hope isn’t a bad thing, in fact, one of the best things in the world.

Therefore, something is better than none. Do make good and realistic resolutions and try to stick to them.

As we’re heading for New Year 2023, let’s be ready to face new challenges that will be thrown in front of us. It’s better to be overprepared than unprepared.

What are some lessons you can try to become a better version of yourself in 2023?

1. Improve Basics

We all want to excel in our fields. Hence, we aim to get top degrees, certificates, and various skills to become the best in that domain. Learning different languages like French, and taking online courses in digital marketing, email marketing, and many more are some examples.

Internet allows us to get skills and degree courses online. Well, these aren’t bad things. In fact, one should never leave learning.

However, it’s also important to refresh the basics again and again. In order to get more, we forget the fundamentals. Naval Ravikant, the successful entrepreneur, says that basics are very important and you must have a good grip over them. Your basics must be clear, meaning good knowledge of English, Maths, Science, History, etc. (Not high level but basic level).

2. Spend in experiences, not in hedonism

It’s easier to say than do. The capitalist world chases materialistic gains any time and praises those who get successful to accrue them as much as possible. But constant studies have proven that money won’t make you happier and well-being.

Of course, it impacts you a lot in this world. But at a certain level, after that, it won’t impact much on your lives. Interestingly, happiness level goes down after the peak level of monetary gain as you begin losing the tendency to enjoy small pleasures of life.

Daniel Khaneman says in ‘Thinking Fast and Slow’, it’s better to spend more time in experience and with loved ones. As we wrongly presume materialistic things make us happy. We only care when we think about them and 99% of the time we don’t think about them. Moreover, the initial happiness of getting a thing will drain with the passage of time.

3. Be Optimistic

Nothing is better than remaining optimistic. Yes, it won’t solve all your problems. But studies have proven that optimism makes you resilient. It gives the internal power to handle worse situations swiftly.

There is a stark reminder that optimism won’t make everything better, though it gives enough strength to face any hurdle anytime, anywhere.
