Netflix Marketing trick — riveting and unique for extra income
It’s just my theory. There can be some other reasons as well to split season 4 into two parts.
I believe it is a pure marketing funda (strategy) to earn more revenue. As this is the last season of Stranger Things and it has a hype that means great demand and consumer base, so they try to garner as much revenue as possible. They must have completed all the production processes by now; Because it might not have production or editing problems delaying the last two episodes.
They launched the first part in May which contains six episodes and now they are scheduling to launch the next part which has the last two episodes on July 1st.
Now they are forcing viewers to purchase a Netflix subscription one more month through this marketing strategy.
Suppose someone has bought the netflix subscription to watch Stranger Things season 4 in the end of May, precisely around 27 May. His/her one month subcription would end by the end of June. Once the second part arrives on July 1st, he/she needs to purchase another one month subscription. By mere splitting one season into two parts, they have generated an additonal stream of revenue, earning almost doubled that what they could without splitting it.
Netflix is reeling under the intense pressure of subscriber losses with the fading of covid-19 and the opening of the economy. The company is trying to salvage the huge losses through various measures. This is one of the steps that the marketing team must have come up with to increase the revenue stream.
It’s a simple logic. People now will be forced to purchase another one-month subscription to quench their thirst for the show. It’s like killing two birds with a single stone. Fans are willing to pay extra pennies while Netflix is earning extra. Maybe some may criticize the strategy but it is the need of the hour. They depend on a subscription model and no ad policy.
