India Becomes First To Land On Moon’s South Pole— Success Paves New Avenues For Humanity
Indian space agency, ISRO successfully landed Chandrayaan-3 lander ‘Vikram’ on the Moon’s south pole, becoming the first country to do so in the dark side of the Moon. Moreover, it becomes overall fourth country to land the spacecraft on the Moon.
The lander began descent around 5:20 pm IST and finally touched the ground around 6:04 pm IST. Confirming the successful landing of the lander, ISRO said “India, I reached my destination and you too.”
Celebration poured in across the world from world leaders to scientists to astronomers, congratulating the agency and the country.
But this success isn’t only for India, it’s a big thing for the entire human civilisation too.
Why is landing on the south pole of the Moon important?
The moon’s south pole, which is known as the dark side of the Moon due to lack of knowledge and exploration, is believed to have frozen water.
Moreover, it is considered a suitable location to set up the space station for further exploration.
Chandrayaan-3 marked a big achievement, underlining the fact that three other countries in recent times failed to land on the Moon including Israel, Japan and Russia.
Russia’s moon mission ‘Luna-25’ crashed onto the Moon’s surface a few days ago.
Success Opens Doors For Others
ISRO’s success will inspire other countries for future moon missions.
