From Dyslexia to Billionaire: Richard Branson’s Inspiring Story
The United Kingdom-based self-made billionaire, Richard Branson, needs no introduction. He is a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of the Virgin Group, whose success story is a source of motivation and inspiration for many.
We all shine more when we are given the freedom to do what we love, and when we find our unique talents. ~ Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, Comprising Virgin Galactic, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Voyager, etc.
However, what some may not know is that Richard Branson is dyslexic, a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words.
In a recent blog post, Richard opened up about his dyslexia and how he spent most of his childhood being told by teachers that he was dumb and lazy.
He wrote, “What I lacked in spelling and maths skills, I made up for in creativity, intuition, and problem-solving.”
Exploring the issue of judging people with the same set of standards, he criticized the current education system, stating that “It’s foolish to judge everybody by the same set of metrics, without considering their unique strengths.”
He remarked that everyone should be allowed to pursue their own interests and develop their strengths, and this should start at school. “Just because we are not so great in certain areas, we shouldn’t be made to feel inferior or bad about ourselves. Our differences should be celebrated and embraced, not stifled,” Branson added.
