Do ‘Metaverse’ become reality soon?
Internal memos from Facebook have revealed that even Meta’s employees aren’t using Metaverse enough due to poor graphics, fundamental faults, and performance issues. This is a big blow for Meta which is spearheading the Metaverse idea and planning to make it popular like Facebook or Instagram.
The term ‘Metaverse’ is very vague and symbolic so far. People have a deep divide over the issue as some saying it won’t be a reality in the near future. However, the proponents of the metaverse call it the next “big revolution” after the Internet. Once it is available for mass consumption use, a new parallel world would have been created for people.
What is Metaverse?
Imagine yourself at a place where you are roaming freely, interacting with your surroundings and people, and enjoying the moments. Everything is ok except the world isn’t real. It will be a virtual world where avatars of real people roaming, interacting, and enjoying.
There are cafes to talk, streets to walk, building to live and games to play for avatars. What they need is only headwear to experience it. So everything will be connected, integrated, and assimilated for creating the parallel world.
Why is it being criticised?
Meta is spending a huge amount of money on R&D to make the dream possible very soon. It is developing one of the VR social apps for metaverse called ‘Horizon Worlds’. Since the beginning, the Horizon Worlds has been the centre of mockery, with people making fun of its crude and pedestrian graphics.
What’s the Future then?
It’s hard to say so far. A lot of work needs to happen before this becomes a true reality where people can work, connect, and enjoy. Some are calling it a hoax so far that can’t become a mass-consumption item. We have to wait sometime to find out the answers regarding it. But it’s better to be hopeful about something that might revolutionise our world as never before.
