Brain Rot — modern plague and how to avoid it
Nothing kills a person faster than its own mind. It’s a double-edge sword.
‘Brain Rot’ has been named Oxford word of the year 2024. A term describes a modern phenomenon where an individual’s mental health and intellect has deteriorated due to over consumption of social media content.
Humanity is plaguing with the modern disease as people are spending a maximum time of their 24-hours day in front of screens scrolling mindlessly on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), Reddit and many more.
According to a report of Statista, an average consumer spends about 143 minutes (approx. 2 hours 23 minutes ) on social media platforms. There’s been a constant upsurge in the usage of these platforms with lives of people circling around likes, views, shares and subscribes.
What’s important and essential in ‘Brian Rot’ is the consumption of low-value and low-quality content, leading to decline of cognitive strength and power among the users. GenZ is the biggest victim of this plague as they use them the most than any other generations.
