Steve Jobs was a true genius, innovator, entrepreneur, and trailblazer whose extraordinary legacy can’t be discredited and disavowed. He left an indelible mark on our lives which we could feel even today. Apple isn’t just a name, it’s a world-class brand, a symbol of standard, and an influencer over the tech world.

Giving 2005 Stanford Commencement Address, his alma mater, Jobs shared some enduring life lessons to the college students. He learned these lessons from his life experiences and how they helped him to achieve success in life.

Three important lessons we should learn from Steve Jobs:-

1. Connecting The Dots

Life is a Pandora box. You never know what’s hidden in it. You will get to know once it comes out of the box. There is a psychological problem with us. We don’t like uncertainties and want to have the entire roadmap. That’s why we fear future and unexpected moves. Unfortunately, we can’t do much about it.

Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice ~ Steve Jobs

Therefore, it’s better to give up the thought of controlling our lives. If you are a fatalist, destiny has a pre-decided path for you. As Stoic thinkers say, the things that are happening with you is awaiting to happen since the beginning of time. Don’t get anxious over the future, let alone the uncertainties.

Steve Jobs dropped out of his college in his second year. Then he joined a calligraphy course which he didn’t know the time why he joined it at all. But his curiosity and intuition paid off later when he used the lessons from the calligraphy class while designing Apple’s Macintosh. As Apple created the first computer with beautiful typography.

Instead of questioning the unwanted situations, try to embrace them. Sometimes we have to do things that we don’t want to do at any cost. However, we’re forced to do so. You don’t know at what situation or in what way, they may be beneficial for you in the future.

2. Don’t Lose Faith

Steve Jobs was fired from his company over the divergence of views regarding the company’s future. He didn’t give up. Meanwhile, he created another tech company called NexT and an animation company called ‘Pixar’.

A few years later, Apple bought NexT and Pixar and brought back Steve Jobs to the board of Directors. In his absence, Apple became a loss-making company and produced no disruptive innovation. In his second tenure, he presented game-changing innovations like iPods and iPhones.

Life hits you hard. The message is simple. Don’t give up and lose faith to ever rise up again against the odds.

Things don’t always go as you plan. It may take sidetracked sometimes. Keeping the self-belief and conviction is very important when these detours happen.

Only one who gets through rough weather can enjoy the calm and shining sky.

Therefore, it’s important to love what you do. It will help you to keep going despite immense hurdles and challenges. Once you love doing something, it will automatically make you creative.

3. Follow Your Heart

The expression, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am going to do? had made a deep impact on Steve Jobs’ life. He said the only thought of death made everything smaller.

Remembering you are going to die is a good way to fight against the thought of losing something. Don’t cower against the challenges and settle on the comfortable zone.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone’s else life ~ Steve Jobs

We’re trapped most of our lives fulfilling expectations of others, from our parents to bosses. By doing so, we forget to pursue what we truly want to get in life.

It’s important to have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want in life.
